OSRS Easy AFK Mining and Prayer Guide

Sep-28-2024 PST

In Old School RuneScape (OSRS), finding ways to train skills efficiently with minimal attention is a game-changer for many players. Mining and Prayer are two crucial skills that can take significant time to level up. Fortunately, there are AFK (Away From Keyboard) methods that allow you to gain experience while multitasking or stepping away for short periods. In this guide, we’ll walk you through the easiest AFK methods for Mining and Prayer, allowing you to train effectively without constant interaction.

AFK Mining Guide

Mining is an important skill in OSRS, essential for gathering ores used in Smithing and crafting. While it can be a click-intensive activity, there are some excellent AFK methods for those looking to gain experience without constant attention.

1. Motherlode Mine

Motherlode Mine is one of the most popular methods for AFK Mining in OSRS. Located in the Dwarven Mine beneath Falador, the Motherlode Mine offers a relatively slow but consistent flow of Mining experience along with the added bonus of ores and golden nuggets.

Requirements: 30 Mining

Recommended: 72 Mining (for access to the upper level)

In this area, you mine pay-dirt from various veins, which you then deposit into the hopper. After a short period, the ore will be cleaned, and you’ll receive various ores depending on your Mining level. The nuggets earned can be used to purchase items from the shop, such as the Prospector’s outfit which increases Mining XP by 2.5%.

Why it’s AFK: The process of mining pay-dirt and depositing it is semi-AFK. Each vein takes about 20-40 seconds to mine, and after filling your inventory, you can walk over to the hopper, making it easy to step away for a moment between actions.

2. Amethyst Mining

Once you reach 92 Mining, Amethyst becomes available to you. Located in the Mining Guild, Amethyst provides some of the best AFK Mining experience in the game.

Requirements: 92 Mining

Location: Mining Guild Expansion

Amethyst is a slow yet profitable Mining method. Each rock takes a long time to deplete, which is perfect for players looking to AFK while gaining solid experience. Amethyst can be crafted into bolt tips, darts, or javelin heads, making it a valuable resource.

Why it’s AFK: Mining Amethyst takes a long time, with each click lasting upwards of 30-60 seconds, allowing you to do other tasks while waiting for the rocks to deplete.

3. 3-Tick Granite (Alternative)

Although not AFK, it’s worth mentioning 3-tick Granite Mining for those who may be interested in more active methods. This method provides extremely fast Mining experience, but it requires constant attention and precise timing. If you’re aiming to max Mining quickly, this could be your go-to, but for AFK purposes, stick to the other methods.

AFK Prayer Guide

Prayer is a notoriously expensive skill to train in OSRS, often requiring large amounts of bones and considerable gold investment. However, there are AFK-friendly methods that make it more convenient to train without draining your bank or requiring constant clicking.

1. Gilded Altar with Incense Burners

Using a Gilded Altar in a player-owned house (POH) is one of the most efficient ways to train Prayer. This method can be semi-AFK depending on how you set it up.

Requirements: None, but having Dragon Bones or Superior Dragon Bones is recommended for faster XP gains.

Items Needed: Bones (like Dragon Bones), access to a Gilded Altar, and Marrentill herbs for incense burners.

The Gilded Altar grants 350% more Prayer experience when bones are offered. Players can visit someone else’s house using the House Party World or set up their own altar. Once the incense burners are lit, you can use bones on the altar for a large chunk of experience.

Why it’s AFK: Once the burners are lit, you can offer bones for around 1-2 minutes before having to relight them. This allows short AFK periods between lighting the burners and offering bones.

2. Ensouled Heads (Arceuus Spellbook)

For a more AFK Prayer training method, Ensouled Heads combined with the Arceuus Spellbook is a solid alternative. The heads are dropped by various monsters and can be reanimated to gain Prayer experience upon killing them again.

Requirements: 60% Arceuus favor, Magic levels (to cast the reanimation spells), and the appropriate Ensouled Heads.

Recommended: Decent combat stats to kill the reanimated monsters quickly.

When reanimating heads, you gain both Magic and Prayer experience, making this a great multi-skill training method. The process is semi-AFK, as you only need to cast the spell every few minutes, then kill the reanimated creature.

Why it’s AFK: While waiting for the reanimated creatures to die, you can step away for a moment or work on something else. With each kill giving significant Prayer experience, this method can be less click-intensive than using bones on an altar.

3. Bonecrusher and Ectofuntus (Alternative)

The Bonecrusher and Ectofuntus methods are also worth considering for AFK Prayer experience. The Bonecrusher automatically buries bones when killing monsters, providing passive Prayer experience. While not as fast as using a Gilded Altar, it’s an entirely AFK method for players who are already doing combat training.

Alternatively, Ectofuntus offers more XP per bone but is a much more involved process. For those looking for a hands-off approach, stick with the Altar and Ensouled Head methods.

Training Mining and Prayer in OSRS can be a time-consuming process, but these AFK methods offer efficient ways to level up with minimal effort. Whether you’re mining Amethyst or offering bones on a Gilded Altar, you can easily gain valuable experience without constantly clicking or being glued to your screen.
