OSRS Forestry Guide 2024
Jan-04-2024 PSTThe following Forestry Guide covers everything there is to know about the Woodcutting reword. For instance, how you can complete various Forestry events, how to participate in the activity, what are the strategies to obtain an Anima-Infused Bark, and what reward to get ahold of first.
What is Forestry?
Forestry is a rework of the Woodcutting skill. It was introduced in the month of June 2023. The update brought in a change in the core mechanics of Woodcutting while giving birth to various events and new rewards.
The purpose of Forestry was to make Woodcutting, which is a boring skill, fun again! The OSRS team has really succeeded in doing so. The skill has become more social than it ever was because instead of hopping worlds to find an open tree, players are now chopping wood together in various tree locations in the game.
The events help a lot in adding a spark of excitement while training the skill. Also, rewards like Log Basket which carries 28 extra logs enhance the play experience for many. This is something that should have been introduced an exceedingly long time ago. Anyhow, better late than never!
Mechanics
Before the update, trees used to deplete faster than players could chop them. Whereas now trees have a specific deplete timer and even grant an additional +1 boost that caps out at +10 when you are chopping a tree.
If you chop a tree with 10 or more people, you will notice a growth in the experience you are getting. Tree timers depend upon which tree you are chopping. High-tier trees stay intact for a longer duration. Oak for 27 seconds, Willow for 30 seconds, Teak for 30 seconds, Maple for a minute, Artic Pine for 1 minute and 24 seconds, Yet for 1 minute and 54 seconds, Magic for 3 minutes and 54 seconds, and Redwood for 4 minute and 24 seconds.
How to Start?
You can start Forestry by grabbing a Foresters’ Kit from the NPC named Freaky Forester which can be found in the Seers’ or Draynor Village. The kit is like a wearable bag pack, so it will not take up any inventory space. It helps automatically pick up items that are dropped while Woodcutting or completing events.
The official worlds for Forestry are W338 (AUS), W398 (GER), W434 (US – West Coast), W444 (US – West Coast), W487 (US – East Coast), and W510 (UK). If you chop trees in these worlds, you will always get an additional +10 boost.
Events
The other change with the Forestry update is Events that randomly occur as your woodcut. These are available to anyone and everyone who is even passing by and not engaged in any Woodcutting activity.
Completing these events rewards you with Woodcutting XP and Anima-Infused Barks. These barks can be spent at the Forestry Shop for a range of items.
The basic events that often occur are Rising Roots and Struggling Sapling, whereas the other two: Leprechaun and Flowering Bushes require items to trigger.
Rising Roots
In this event, tree roots appear around your tree, and you must chop them down for Anima-Infused Barks and Woodcutting XP. The roots colored in green must be prioritized as they grant better rewards.
Struggling Sapling
This event is a puzzle where a chopped tree turns into a Sapling that needs to be revived. You can take the help of the resource piled that shortly spawns as the event triggers. The right combination of adding mulch to the Struggling Sapling is always random. This event will reward you with Woodcutting XP, Anima-Infused Barks, and Tree Leaves.
Flowering Bush
This event only spawns when you have a Bee on a Stick inside the Forestry Kit. This is another puzzling event where Flowering Bushes and Bee Swarns appear near the area. You need to find Strange Pollen by clicking on bushes and using it on the matching ones to pollinate it.
Leprechaun
This event only spawns when you have a Leprechaun Charm inside the Forestry Kit. The spawned Leprechaun acts as a bank for players and does not offer any other rewards. It comes quite in handy to quickly clear your inventory items as you Woodcut.
Forestry Rewards
Now, the real question is, “What can Anima-Infused Barks be spent on and where?” Well, there is a Forestry Shop owner that awaits your visit!
Log Basket
The Log Basket lets you carry 28 extra logs and can be equipped in the Cape slot of your character. The cost of the Log Basket is 5000 Anima-Infused Barks and 300 Oak and Willow Logs (noted).
To equip both the Log Basket and Foresters,’ you can combine the two with a Sturdy Harness. This will create a Forestry Basket. You can purchase the Sturdy Harness from the G.E. (Grand Exchange) or make one yourself.
Lumberjack/Forestry Outfit
The Lumberjack is nothing new and has always been in the game since the Temple Trekking mini-game. But you can now also purchase it from the Forestry Shop! The outfit grants a 2.5% Woodcutting XP boost when all pieces are equipped.
You can also purchase Forestry Outfit pieces from the Forestry Shop. In terms of bonuses, it is the same as the Lumberjack Outfit. You can always switch between the two for cooler looks (Fashion Scape).
2-Handed Axe
For a total of 10000 Anima-Infused Barks, you can purchase an Axe Handle and combine it with any Woodcutting Axe to create a 2-handed version of it. This axe can also be purchased from the Grand Exchange.
A 2-Handed Axe grants a 20% boost on each successful chop while also granting a 20% chance of not obtaining a log. On every successful chop, a Foresters’ Ration is consumed. You can purchase these rations from the Grand Exchange or make them yourself by combining cooked Fish/Meat with Tree Leaves.
Others
Other rewards include Log Brace, which is used to make Sturdy Harness. Clothes Pouch Blueprint, which is used to make Cloth Pouches. And, Funky Shaped Log, which can be used on your Beaver Pet to metamorphose into a variety of log-based colors.
